How do I contact Technical Support?

Technical Support may be reached by logging on to your account and click on "Online Support"

In order for us to provide you with prompt and accurate service, please include the following information:

    1. Your 1040Now User Name.
    2. Browser software type and version.
    3. Type of Internet connection (modem dial-up, cable, DSL, etc.) .
    4. Detailed description of the issue(s).

I don't remember my password. How can I recover my password to log-in?

Due to security reasons, you can only request for your password hint. Click "Online Support", select option 1. If you can not remember your password with your password hint, you may request option 4 to recover your account information. To request for your password hint, you need either your user name or your e-mail address registered with your account.

Is my password case sensitive?

No, it makes no difference if you enter your password as capital or lowercase letters.

How do I check the status of my e-filing return(s)?

You need to login to your account to check the e-filing status of your tax return.

Can I start my return and finish it at another time?

1040Now automatically saves your information as you complete each step. You may return to work on your tax return at any time by Login to 1040Now Online with your username and password. You will be automatically brought back to where you were the last time you logged in.

Can my tax return information be transferred to next year return?

Yes, any information which can be transferred from one tax year to the next will be done automatically.

How long can my tax return information be kept at 1040Now?

You can access your tax return information until October 15 of the tax filing year. You should print out a copy of your tax return or save the return in Adobe® Acrobat® (*.pdf) format before this date. After this date, you may need to contact the IRS for a copy or transcript of your tax return.

Can I prepare part-year or non resident state returns?

Part-year or non resident state returns may not be available for some states. Check "Federal / State Tax Forms" for availability.

Are the calculations in the tax returns prepared at 1040Now guaranteed to be accurate?

The tax preparation software engine at 1040Now has been tested for accuracy with the I.R.S. If you are assessed an IRS penalty due to a calculation error by 1040Now, we will pay for your penalty subject to applicable laws and conditions. Contact us for more information about this guarantee.

Is my tax return information going to be private and secure?

Yes. Privacy and Security are our top priorities at 1040Now. We employed industry-standard Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol which provides data encryption, message integrity, and server authentication when your data is transmitted to us. When you see a small lock in the bottom right or left corner of your browser window, you know your data is being encrypted for transmission.

Your personal information is never viewed by any employee at 1040Now unless prompted by you, and we never sell or rent your information for commercial purposes. For more information about our commitment to privacy and security, please see our Privacy Policy.

What are the minimum system requirements for using the products and services at 1040Now?

1040Now requires the following:

    • Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000/Me/XP
    • Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher, Netscape Navigator 4.06 and higher, or AOL 4.0 and higher.
    • Your browser must be set up to accept cookies, Java, and JavaScript.
    • Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® required. Adobe Acrobat Reader is available free of charge.

Macintosh®

    • Macintosh® system 8.0 or greater.
    • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator 4.06 or higher.
    • Your browser must be set up to accept cookies, Java, and JavaScript.
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader required.

  What is e-filing?

E-Filing or electronic filing is a convenient and quick way of sending your tax returns to the I.R.S. by using an on-line tax preparation site like 1040Now or other service providers. Your return is securely transmitted by 1040Now directly to I.R.S. computers for processing. You do not need to mail anything to the I.R.S. The I.R.S. will notify 1040Now whether your tax return(s) has been accepted and, in turn, you can access to the e-filing page for the status of your tax return(s).

           Can I print my return and mail it in rather than file it electronically?

If you do not want to e-file your return, you can print and mail your return FREE of charge. You will need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® to view and print your tax return. Your return can be printed on regular paper with the format that I.R.S. accepts.

What information do I need to prepare my tax return on 1040Now.com?

You need the same information as if you file a traditional paper return. We have a Tax Filing checklist that you can refer to in the process of gathering information to prepare your tax return. 

  Can I file my state return on 1040Now.com?

Yes, you can file your tax return after you complete preparation of your federal tax return. Some states require state tax return filed at the same as the federal tax return. Refer to "Federal and State Tax Forms" for more details.

  Do I need to download anything to use the 1040Now Online Service?

No, you do not need to download any other software. The only software you need for viewing and printing of your tax return is Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® as stated above.

  Is 1040Now an authorized IRS e-file provider?

1040Now undergo extensive testing with the I.R.S. before being accepted as an authorized I.R.S. e-file provider. The I.R.S. requires testing to ensure that the tax preparation software engine calculates tax liabilities accurately and transmits tax returns electronically in the correct format and meets the I.R.S. e-filing specifications.

  What is the Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL)?

    Refund Anticipation Loan or RAL is service that we offer as a loan or "advanced refund" based on your tax refund. Currently, we do not provide RAL.

            How can I change the information on my tax return or correct a mistake I made?

You can change the information you have entered as long as the tax return has not been accepted by the I.R.S. After the tax return has been accepted by the I.R.S., you will have to file an amended return (federal form 1040X) and/or appropriate amended tax return form with your state authority.

            How do I get my refund or pay any tax liabilities I owe if I file electronically?

The same way as if you file a paper return. If you expect a refund, you can select direct-deposit into your bank account. Otherwise, the I.R.S. will mail you a check.

If you owe taxes, you can send a check with a voucher or have the payment withdrawn from your bank account.

Can the fees for paying services deducted from my refund?

    Yes. However, you must file your return electronically and select this option.

How do I enter the direct deposit information?

Click on "Print/File". "Print/File Federal Tax Return" screen appears. Select option "1", then click "Next". "Tax Refund Options" screen appears. Select option "1", then "Next". "Direct Deposit Information" screen appears.

Is 1040Now telephone support available?

1040Now telephone technical support is available for a fee. Click "Online Support" to request telephone technical support.

Tax Preparation

  How many tax returns can I prepare?

There is a maximum of 5 tax returns allowed per user account. There is no limitation for professional paid preparers.

How do I start another tax return?

Click "Start", "Start Tax Return" screen appears. Click "Start a new tax return".

Why did my session expire?

Due to security reasons, 1) a session expires if it is idle without any activity within 5 minutes; 2) maximum time allows for a session is 2 hours. You may login back to your account immediately to start a new session.

What if I forgot my password?

Click on "Forgot your password". Enter either username or e-mail address. Click on "Submit" to retrieve your password hint.

What if I can’t remember my password with my password hint?

You may request for your username and password recover for a fee. Click "Online Support".

Can I open more than one (1) user account?

Yes, you may open more than one user account for you and your family and friends. Each user account requires a different user name and e-mail address. Due to IRS regulation, for self-preparer, you may prepare up to 5 tax returns per user account. This limitation does not apply to paid preparer account.

What are the 1040 forms supported by 1040Now?

1040Now support most of the 1040 forms, statements and worksheets. Click on "Federal and State Tax Forms".

Where do I enter the information from Form 1098-T?

This information may be entered on either a) line 3 of "Other Deductions/Payments" under "Deductions" or b) Education Credit  under "Tax/Credits".

Electronic Filing

My return has been rejected, how do I correct my tax return?

Login and open your tax return. Click on "Print/File". "Print/File Federal Tax Return" screen appears. Select option to correct rejected tax return. "Error Codes" screen appears. Review your error code and description. Correct each e-file error; resubmit your tax return upon completion.

I have requested a Refund Anticipated Check. When will I receive my refund?

When your tax refund is available, your tax refund minus authorized fee(s) will be directly deposited or sent to you by mail. Please allow up to 10 business days to receive your direct deposit or refund check. After 10 business days, if you have not received your direct deposit or tax refund, please notify 1040Now Online Support. We will stop payment or direct deposit, then send you another refund check by express mail.

IF you live in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, all APO and FPO addresses (except Asian/Pacific).

THEN mail Form 8453-OL to this address:

Error Code 522 - My birthday or my spouse's birthday does not match the IRS master file

If your birthday in the taxpayer information sheet and, if filing a joint return, your spouse's birthday in the spouse information sheet are correct, it is possible that your birthday or your spouse's birthday does not match the IRS master file. Please contact the IRS to verify their master record. You may have to file a paper return.

Error Codes 680, 681, 679, 676 - Authentification Record

Login and open your tax return, click on "Print/File". "Print/File Federal Tax Return" appears. Select option "3", click "Next". Authentification Page appears:

1) Make sure your prior year AGI and, if filing a joint return, your spouse's prior year AGI are correct. If you are not sure, you may file your tax return without prior year AGI information. Check mark line 1. You may want to contact the IRS for your prior year AGI information.

2) Make sure your self-selected PIN and, if filing a joint return, your spouse self-selected PIN are correct. A valid self-select PIN consists of 5 digits. Letters and all zeros are not allowed.

What forms do I need to mail into the IRS after doing the electronic e-file?

After your tax return has been submitted and accepted by the IRS (if your tax return has been submitted without prior year AGI and self-selected PINs)  you will need to mail into the IRS Form 8453-OL. Form 8453-OL is available under "Print/File" - option 4.

There is no form to mail into the IRS if your tax return has been submitted with prior year AGI and self-selected PINs.
